Years ago, we used to tell clients, “Content is King!”, and to always make sure you add relevant, fresh content regularly to your website, and be consistent.
This is still very much the case today, if not more so. The type, and style, of website content, may be changing but the fundamental principles remain the same, post often and consistently.
Where do we start!? Well, understanding that content is king, would probably be the most important aspect of your digital marketing campaign. Once you have truly grasped the content is king concept then you can just start brainstorming and creating.
Content helps you build and maintain trust with your target audience and is the foundation upon which you promote your business on-line, so it really is important to understand how valuable your content is.
Good, and relevant, content is a powerful reputation building tool. In today’s busy digital business arena, it is so important for businesses strive to build trust with their prospective, and existing, customers. We all know how building a trusted “brand” can reap great rewards for a business.
It is also important to keep a close eye on your on-line reputation, monitor it closely and try to negate any negative comments or reviews as quickly as possible.
Great content will really help to enhance your reputation and build trust.
When it comes to SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) there are no quick fixes anymore, and one of the best ways to get Google to sit up and take note of your fantastic website, is to produce regular, amazing content. In return, Google and the other search engines will reward you by ranking you higher up the search results pages. Did you know that the average number of words on the top pages in the SERP is 1,800. So, don’t skimp on writing. But it also has to make sense and be valuable.
You want your business to come up at number one position when people search for your type of products or services, right? So give Google every reason to hand you the top spot by showing how good you are at what you do, and content is a key element to do this.
Google’s “useful content algorithm” isn’t a specific algorithm with that name, but it’s a term often used to describe the core principles behind Google’s search algorithms, especially as they relate to content quality and relevance. Google’s search engine aims to provide users with the most useful and relevant information in response to their search queries.
Here are some key points about this concept:
Relevance is Key: Google assesses the relevance of webpages to users’ search queries. It looks for keywords and phrases that match the user’s intent.
Content Quality Matters: The algorithm evaluates the quality of content. It favours well-written, informative, and engaging content. Thin or low-quality content may be penalised.
User Experience Counts: Google considers factors like page load speed, mobile-friendliness, and overall user experience when ranking websites. A good user experience is seen as part of providing useful content.
Freshness: In some cases, Google gives preference to recent and up-to-date content, especially for topics that change frequently.
Diverse Content Types: Google values a mix of content types, including text, images, videos, and more. This diversity can enhance the user experience.
Authority and Trust: Websites with a strong reputation and backlinks from authoritative sources are more likely to be considered as providers of useful content.
User Engagement: Metrics like click-through rate (CTR), time spent on page, and bounce rate can indicate how useful and relevant users find your content.
Local Relevance: For local businesses, Google prioritises local search results, making sure users get relevant results based on their location.
In summary, while there isn’t a specific “useful content algorithm” by name, Google’s overall search algorithms are designed to reward websites that provide valuable, relevant, and high-quality content to users. Keeping these principles in mind is crucial for SEO and digital marketing efforts to rank well in Google’s search results and provide a positive user experience. If you have any specific questions or need more details, feel free to ask! So you see why content is king and then some!
You want your business to come up at number one position when people search for your type of products or services, right? So give Google every reason to hand you the top spot by showing how good you are at what you do, and content is a key element to do this.
Producing great content really helps with your marketing as other websites may want to link their web content with yours. Depending on the reputation of the site wating to link with your content, you get increased traffic to your site very quickly.
“Backlinking”, as it is known, also helps with your website ranking with Google etc. If websites with a good “Page Authority” score and have a high “Domain Authority”, link to your website, this will help promote your brand to Google and raise your ranking level.
Probably the most important reason of all for spending some time producing good content, to get more business! Not exactly rocket-science as this is the primary reason why we do digital marketing or any marketing for that matter.
These days people will almost always check out your website and see if you are genuine, trustworthy, and capable of giving them what they need.
One personal example of this is when my wife and I were looking to purchase a “Garden Office”, a log cabin to use as our Home Office.
We looked at many websites for this, looking at price, quality, range, and availability but the company we were drawn to most was one that had a lot of really useful information about the buildings and how to treat them, how to construct them and how to look after them etc.
Have a look at their website and see for yourself the quality and quantity of their articles, and also the way they are written is both informative and entertaining! Developing your “tone of voice” is also really important when producing content.
What we loved about this company was that they obviously knew what they were talking about and they were generous with their impartial advice and information and in no way do they come across as “salesy” but just a good, down-to-earth and knowledgeable company.
So, in conclusion, we must again say that Content is King and is likely to be forever! Or at least for a long while. The clamor for business during the recent Covid situation means increasing competition, higher stakes, and the need to keep on top of the game.
We often say to clients that their competitors’ websites are just a click away! So make sure you are doing all you can to stay ahead of the curve.
Online content marketing may well be the deciding factor in a business’s success or failure, it must not be underestimated.
